What do you need?

All you need is a Ytmp3 converter or website where you can convert your youtube videos. ytmp3 stands for youtube mp3, and is one of thousands of websites that allow people to convert youtube videos into mp3 files. It’s one of my favorites because it’s simple and fast, with no annoying distractions. Simply copy and paste your Youtube video URL into their search bar, select which format you want (128kbps/320kbps) and then click convert!

Choose your program

A number of conversion programs exist for converting Youtube video files into MP3 files. However, not all programs are created equal, and some are better than others at handling tricky file formats like H.264/AVC or FLV. The most common free YouTube to MP3 converters include 2conv and yt2mp3, both of which run on Windows systems only and can be found online at multiple sources (including your typical Google search). Another good converter is Zinf, which runs on both Windows and Mac systems and supports a range of file types including AVI (DivX). Whatever you do, don’t go too cheap with your conversion program—flawed conversions result in inaccurate audio quality that will be immediately apparent when you play your new mp3 in your music player.

Download and install the software

We’re going to use YouTube-to-MP3 Converter as our app of choice because it’s both quick and reliable. With just a few clicks, you can download videos and convert them for playback on any device. For example, let’s say that you want to watch your favorite song from your iPhone. Just copy and paste its URL into YouTube-to-MP3 Converter, hit Download, then select Convert. In about five minutes or less (depending on how long your video is), you have an MP3 file ready for playback! The best part? The entire process is completely free. You don’t even need to register with a username or email address. Once you finish downloading and converting your files, simply right-click on each one and click Save As. From there, you can move them anywhere you like—on your computer, in iTunes, etc.—and listen whenever you want!

Open your Youtube video

If you have a link to a youtube video, open it and make sure it is playing on your computer before you move on. Use any media player (iTunes works great if you’re using Mac or PC) and play your video. This can be done whether you are using Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux/Unix as your operating system. You want to make sure that everything plays properly before moving on because what happens next will involve changing your software configuration settings and could crash any existing applications running on your computer. Once everything looks good, continue by switching back over to a browser tab where you have Ytmp3 open.

Open your music program

If you already have a preferred music program, such as iTunes or Windows Media Player, skip down to Step 4. Otherwise, it’s time to find one that works for you. Try various free programs before deciding on which one is best for your needs. Before purchasing an expensive program like Adobe Audition or Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, make sure you know what features you need and what kind of equipment and audio files (WAV vs. MP3) are compatible with your system. Open your music software of choice, which will vary depending on whether you downloaded a desktop program or an online one.

Export your file

Most sites allow you to choose from different formats, such as mp3, wav, and m4r. Some sites even let you set custom bitrates for your file. Keep in mind that higher bitrates produce larger files with better sound quality. The most common are 128kbps (low quality) and 256kbps (high quality). Which format you choose depends on how you plan on using your file. For example, if you’re putting a podcast together or making a video tutorial series and want high-quality audio, 256kbps is best. If you’re just listening to music while working out or doing homework, 128kbps should be fine.
