ACE Writing classes for EOP students are hidden on ucsb gold
A recent survey uncovered the ACE Writing program and the ACE alums whose time consuming coursework is the envy of the campus. The program is a joint effort between UCSC’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy and the Office of the Vice President, and is designed to provide academic advising, remedial courses, and extracurricular activities for eligible EOP students. To date, the program has had over 3000 students.
It is a nigh impossible task to keep track of everyone who has signed up, but the effort is worthwhile. Despite a few teething problems, the ACE program is on its way to being a slam dunk.
New seating charts for the Thunderdome
UCSB Athletics has announced the new seating charts for the Thunderdome at UCSB Gold. These seats can be purchased for the upcoming 2009 men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
Tickets will start at $125 for men and $100 for women. There are family plans available as well. A family plan includes two adults and three youth season tickets for $400. If you buy five or more, you can save up to 50%. For more information, visit the UCSB Athletics Ticket Office.
The UCSB Events Center, previously known as the Thunderdome, was built in 1979. It has hosted thousands of people. In addition to athletics, the facility also hosts concerts and other indoor events. This arena can be found near El Colegio & Stadium, UCSB North Hall Inbound and the UCSB Bus Loop.
UCSB Athletics also offers special group packages for its fans. This package can include parking passes, group pictures with Ole and a welcome by the PA announcer. Other amenities can also be purchased as part of the UCSB athletics ticket package.
UCSB Athletics will also unveil a wall of legends inside the Thunderdome. Each of the legendary athletes will have their own large banner on the walls of the venue. Fans will have the chance to vote for who they want to be honored next year.
GOLDMine
One of the more memorable aspects of my recent UCSB gold mine tour was the presentation by Jeffrey Hoelle, an Associate Professor of Anthropology. This was the first time I’d seen the guy, and he was kind enough to take me for a spin to show off the best of the best, albeit with a price tag.
He’s a nice guy, and I look forward to seeing more of him in the future. If you’re in the Santa Barbara area this weekend, be sure to check out the presentation on the docks, and if you can’t make it, check out the website for a virtual tour. The best time to visit is Friday from noon to 8pm, or the weekend before and after from 10am to 6pm. A great way to spend the evening, and get a glimpse of a whole other side of the university. For more information, contact Hoelle at the e-mail address below.
